The things worth settling before the first day.
Does the patient stay with my practice?
Yes. Dr. Marei comes to your clinic for the treatment you book him for, and the patient stays with you for everything else, including recall. He does not contact your patients afterwards, and the after-care sheet they take home carries your clinic's phone number, not his.
How is it billed?
Procedures are billed at ODA general-practitioner fee-guide rates, through your practice, in your patient's name. Dr. Marei invoices your clinic for his associate fee; the patient's account and any insurance predetermination stay entirely with you. There is no referral fee in either direction.
What does the clinic need to have ready?
An operatory, an assistant, and a sterilization cycle. Everything else is in the portal for approved clinics to print before the day: the surgical kit standard, and consent forms and after-care sheets in 17 languages. The kit list says exactly which instruments to have pouched and how many.
What sedation is available?
Minimal sedation only: nitrous oxide, or a minimal oral dose of a benzodiazepine, never the two combined. Oral sedation is offered from age twelve; children receive nitrous oxide alone. Anything beyond minimal sedation is referred to a practitioner authorised to provide it.
Which cases should be referred elsewhere?
Anything outside general practice, and anything where a general dentist is not the right person to be doing it. That call is made before the day, not in the chair. Suspected malignancy, medically complex patients who need a hospital setting, and cases needing deeper sedation or a general anaesthetic go to the appropriate specialist or hospital service, and Dr. Marei will say so plainly rather than take the case.
Who handles a complication after the visit?
The patient calls your clinic. That is what the after-care sheet tells them to do, and it is why the sheet has a blank line for your number. Dr. Marei is reachable for clinical advice on his cases, and the sheets also set out when a patient should go straight to an emergency department or call 911 instead of waiting.
How far does he travel, and how are days booked?
Across Ontario, to practices that can fill a surgical day. Days are booked from your own calendar in the clinic portal: you propose a date, it is confirmed back to you by email, and you can change or cancel it yourself until 6 PM the day before.
Is he a specialist?
No. Dr. Fersan Marei, BDS, is a general dentist registered with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, registration 110469. He provides oral surgery and implant placement as part of his general dental practice.
Clinical Standards
All surgical and biopsy procedures are performed following current clinical guidelines, with appropriate referral to oral pathology, medical specialists, or multidisciplinary teams when required.
Dr. Marei is a general dentist registered with the RCDSO. He is not a dental specialist.
